BRITISH HEAVY-WEIGHT TITLE. LOSER'S SHARE OF PURSE WITHHELD. ("UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTHIC TELEGRAPH— COVTKIOHT.) LONDON, July 12. Jack Doyle, the Irish boxer, was disqualified for hitting the holder, Jack Petersen, of Cardiff, low in the seconU round of the British heavy-weight boxing championship. Forty-five thousand persons who were present in the open air at the White City, London, saw a farcical contest, lasting three and a half minutes, for which each received £SOOO. Both men were severely cautioned for clinching. Doyle, after shaking Petersen, threw all caution to the winds, and dealt' many foul blows, whereupon Ihe referee, who had already showed great leniency, disqualified him. Enquiry Pending. In addition to winning the title, Petersen wins the Lonsdale Belt. According to the "Daily Mail" Doyle's £SOOO has been withheld, pending an enquiry. JONES BEATS HAWES. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TEL.'SanAM.) OAMARU, July 13. In a professional 12-rounds contest here to-night between Colin Jones, Bst 131b (Oamaru), and Percy Hawes, 3st 91b (Christchurch), Jones won on points. He was much the cleverer boxer, and won all the rounds except one. Leckie's challenge has been accepted, to be fought in Oamaru.
