Many men have in later life wished to modify an opinion expressed, sometimes in book form, in their earlier but few pf them have had the misfortune to find that opinion, and their authorship of it commemorated in the names of mountains. Yet this was the experience of Mr Edward Tregear. He wrote a book to maintain the Aryan descent of the Maori, but is said in later life to have wished the book to be forgotten. Unfortunately, surveyors gave the name Tregear to a peak in the Mathias region, and called the ridge leading up to it the Aryan ridge. GQW NEWS.
