MONKS' LONG WALK.
MANY FALL BY WAYSIDE. CALCUTTA, July 10. Of 80 Buddhist monks.who left Rangoon on January 1 to walk to Europe, hoping to gain converts on the way, only 14 remain. Forty arrived at Benares after six months' tramping, and of these all but 14 have since given up. The Rev. Lokanatha Bhikku, an Italian monk; is leading the expedition, and is now in Calcutta. He is considering abandoning the journey. The monks' only luggage is a begging bowl. They live entirely ion alms.
