NEW BROADCASTING STATION.

COMPLETION IN ABOUT FOUR MONTHS. The new 3YA transmitting station at Gebbie's Pass should be completed in about four months. The road formation work to give access to the site is still proceeding, and the contractors, Messrs P. Graham and Son, Ltd., have begun the laying of the , foundations for the 300 feet masts of the transmitter. The 2J kilowatt transmitter for the station is being supplied by Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia), Ltd., and Mr G. Robertson, the company's New Zealand manager, visited Christchurch last week on business connected with the apparatus. It is expected that some indication of what the New Zealand Broadcasting Board is doing about the new studios will be made by the general manager, Mr A. C. Hands, when he visits Christchurch shortly. Land Lines for Station. A start will be made this week by the Post and Telegraph Department with the running of the four heavy copper land wires for the new 3YA transmitting station at Gebbie'a Pass. Tnere will be two metallic circuits of the wire used in toll connexions, and the work will be carried out at the same time -as the department reconstructs the telegraph lines between Cashmere Hills and Governor's Bay. The work is expected to occupy about two months. The work of replacing the old iron wire line between Little River and Akaroa will be completed this week, and the reconstruction of the Ash-burton-Mayfield toll line in copper will be begun.
