COUNTY COUNCILS.

—♦ AMURI. At the monthly meeting of the Amuri County Council there were present: Crs. M. Bethcll (chairman), H. R. Davison, J. J. Duncan, R. Mercer, K. Pettigrew, G. O. Rutherford, W. Hanmer Atkinson, and R. L. Jameson. A motion of sympathy was passed with Cr. J. J. Gallagher in the death of his father. The Canterbury Automobile Association wrote with reference to noticeboards required on "The Whalesback." The matter was left to the engineer io deal with. The association also wrote with reference to u bridge on the Hanmer road and it was decided to reply that it is the council's intention to repair and paint this bridge during the year. Mr G. Lucas applied tor and was granted permission to construct a culvert giving access to his property at Hanmer Springs. . The Hanmer Springs Fire Brigade wrote nominating Superintendent Malaquin for the office of fire inspector. The chairman moved and Cr. W. Hanmer Atkinson seconded, that Mr Malaquin be appointed a fire inspector under Section 134 of the Counties Act, 1920. The motion was carried. The Public Works Department wrote asking if the council desired to make any applications for Public Works grants. It was resolved to apply for grants for the construction of Hossack and Iverach's roads. The Lyttelton Harbour Board wrote with reference to its vote of £SOO towards the relief of unemployment and asked for information relating to unemployment in the county. The chairman reported that the information had been supplied. In accordance with notice given the chairman moved, "That the Amuri County Council do now make and levy a general rate of 3d in the £, in the ridings of Hanmer, Pahau, Waiau, Rotherham, and Lyndon, on the capital value of all rateable properties now appearing on the valuation rolls of the several ridings of the county of Amuri, and that the council do now make and levy a rate of id in the £ on all rateable property in the Waiau plains water suoply district." The motion was carried. It was resolved to purchase fruit trees and shrubs to the value of £5, for the hospital grounds. Rotherham. It was agreed to call for local tenders for the painting of the outside woodwork of the office.
