MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TUESDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) THREE CHARGES. Milne Alexander McKenzie. a labourer, aged 51 'Mr A. A. G. Reed) was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour on each of two charges of usiny obscene language and resisting a police constable in the execution of his duty. REMANDED. Cedric Keith Owen, aged 17. was remanded in custody to July 18 on a charge of the theft of a bicycle valued at £3, the property of some person or persons unknown. Senior-Sergeant J. Fox said that there would be at least seven charges of theft against the accused: ON LICENSED PREMISES. Keith John Campbell and William Christiansen were each fined 20s and costs for being found on licensed premises after hours. Christiansen was also convicted and discharged for failing to give his name and address. IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT. Bertram Gordon Bosworth, aged 41 iMr E. S. Bowie), was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for the theft of a battery cycle lamp, valued at (is 6d, the property of William Weatherhead. Senior-Sergeant J. Fox said the owner of the lamp left his bicycle at the back of some buildings in Colombo street, and when he returned soon afterwards the lamp was missing. The owner of the lamp went to a bicycle shop to buy another lamp, mentioning to the cycle dealer that the other one had been stolen. By a curious coincidence the accused took the original lamp to the same shop to get a new battery. Accused denied stealing the lamp, saying that he had taken it so as to have a light when he went home. GAMING CHARGES ADJOURNED. Leslie Scrimshaw and Herman Ernest Shutte were charged with using premises as common gaming houses. Chief-Detective W. H. Dunlop said the case had been adjourned before to allow the defendants to try to sell the machines in respect of which the charges were laid. These were worth about £BO each. He understood that the defendants had failed to sell the machines in Australia, and were now trying to sell them in South Africa. The case was adjourned for three months. (Before Mr H. A. Reserved judgment in a case in which Roland Bull and George John Leech, trading as Evans and Bull, land and estate agents, Christchurch, claimed from George Robert Parke, of Temuka, farmer, the sum of £126 15s, and from Annie Eliza Dunphy, of Milford, married woman, the sum of £32 10s, as remuneration for services rendered, was given by Mr Young. Mr C. S. Thomas appeared for the plaintiffs, Mr W. J. Stacey for Parke, and Mr R. A. Young for Mrs Dunphy. The statement of claim alleged that on November 15, 1926, the defendant Parke instructed the plaintiffs to sell for him his farm situated at Milford, comprising 141 acres, and the crops, plant, and stock thereon. On June 21, 1932, the plaintiffs introduced the defendant, Mrs Dunphy, as a buyer to the defendant, and after their introduction the latter became the purchaser of the farm at the price of £3952 10s, and of the stock, etc., for £IOOO. The claim against Mrs Dunohy was in respect of services rendered by the plaintiffs in negotiating the sale of property owned by her to the Defendant Parke. ,•♦•*.„ Judgment was given for the plaintiffs for £ll7 and costs against the defendant, Parke, and for the amount claimed, with costs, against Mrs Dunphy. CLAIM AGAINST AGENTS. C. R. Hunnibell, a fruiterer, of Christchurch (Mr J. H. Macdonald) claimed £25 from Hutchinson, White, Ltd., estate agents and auctioneers (Mr W. F. Tracy), allegedly for commission wrongfully retained by the defendant company in connexion witn the sale of a property. Judgment was reserved.
