TARIFF ENQUIRY.

PREPARATION OF EVIDENCE. Considerable progress has been made with the preparation of evidence for presentation to the Customs Tariff Commission, which will begin its sittings on Tuesday next. Mr F. L. Hutchinson, president of the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association, told a reporter of "The yesterday that manufacturers were submitting their evidence in three ways. A large group was putting it through the Manufacturers' Federation in Wellington, others were submitting it through the federations of their own particular industries, and others again were preparing their own cases and submitting them direct to the commission. The federations of particular industries, Mr Hutchinson explained, were working in conjunction with the Manufacturers' Federation in Wellington, and it was anticipated that there would be a large and comprehensive body of evidence and data to submit to the commission.
