The reconstruction of Manchester street from Lichfield street north to Armagh street is to be considered by the Works Committee of the City Council, when framing the estimates for 1933-34,- Cr. J. W. Beanland, chairman of the committee, told a reporter yesterday. Approximately £4OOO remained unexpended of the £220,000 roading loan, and he thought that would be sufficient to reconstruct Manchester street, from Lichfield street north to Gloucester street, in concrete with a bitumen surface. As to the reconstruction of that part of Ferry road from Madras street | to Fitzgerald avenue, Cr.-Beanland said that the work could not be undertaken unless a 10 per cent, supplementary loan of the roading loan was raised, and that could not be considered until the whole of the original loan had been spent.
