An explosion occurred at 1.30 in a three-storey building occupied by John Dickenson and Co., manufacturing stationers. The force of the explosion blew out a number of windows and made a hole in the asbestos roof. The fire which followed the explosion was soon brought • under control by the fire brigade and no one was injured. The roadway was covered with glass from broken windows. The sound of**the explosion brought a large crown into the street, but the excitement quickly subsided. It is understood that the explosion occurred during packing operations on the top floor. None of the machinery was damaged.
