ATHLETICS.
CANTERBURY AMATEUR CLUB. A successful smoke concert was held by the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club at its rooms. During the evening various toasts were honoured including "The King" (proposed by the president, Mr Gracie), "The Victor-;" 'proposed by Mr J. Gasson, responded 0 Z, 10^ c , had won cups); "Siser Clubs' (proposed by Mr C. H. Tav- ; 01 ', jun., and responded to by Sydenham) 4 i r F ' tz simmons), Presbyterian (Mr Poison;, University (Mr D Anderson), Sumner (Mr Bishop)' Old boys (Mr L. Smith), .Celtic (Mr J. ivlurphy), and New Brighton (Mr Hughes); "Old Timers" (proposed by Mr R> der and responded to by Messrs j lewellyu, Anderson, and Taylor jun.); "The Canterbury Centre" (proposed by Mr Gracie, and responded to by Mr Flewellyn). Cups were won by D. Anderson, Reece cup for half-mile; Canterbury championship, J. Olliver; women's challenge cup, Watson cup for teams cnampionship, University; Ballantyne cup for Arms' relay. New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative; Kennett cup lor most points in open handicap events, C. Harwell; Flower cup for most improved athlete, R. Ritchie; Daniells cup 220 yards scratch, under 17, S. Baker. Items were given by Messrs B. CJoodland (pianist), Tichener, J. Lockart, N. Down, Wilson, Fiewellyn, and Lawrence.
