The effect of lightning on electrical power lines was demonstrated b"the damage to the Thames Valley Power Board's lines at Maungatautari during a .recent electncal storm in that district. Although no transformers were damaged most of the 11 k.v. fuses were damaged. On the low tension supply, three 6ft arms were shattered, two LT insulators were melted, and the tongues of two cut-outs were welded into the sockets. Poles were grooved where lightning went to the ground and on one pole which had barbed wire round it the groove followed the spiral.
