ROAD RACE FOR WOMEN.
_^__ —. A GRANDMOTHER AMONG THE FINISHERS. SYDNEY, April 9. Among the five who finished of 13 starters in the 20-mile roadwalking race for women was Mrs Baxter, aged 54, who is a grandmother. Displaying amazing endurance, she came fourth. She wore a long dress, in contrast to the other competitors, ./ho wore shorts. The winner was Miss Sayers, aged 19 of Earlwood, whose time was 4 hours 2 minutes. Miss Esther James, of New Zealand, who issued the challenge which caused the race, collapsed at Chullora, and was unconscious for .several minutes. She revered and continued, but sprained liei ankle and knee at Ashfield and dropped out. ..
