ONE-MAN TRAMS.
, , ■.. .» NEW SERVICE ON FOUR LINES. From April 3, one-man trams will be running on four more of the Christchurch Tramway Board's lines. Twelve cars have been converted to the oneman type, and these will take up th« _ running on the Lincoln road-Bt. Albans and Cranford services, stated the general manager of the board (Mr Frank Thompson) yesterday. The work of converting the old caw has been done in the board's workshop by the constructional staff, and training in the operation of the trams has'been given to a number of motormen, so that they may be familiar with the driving and ticket distributing systems. The construction of loops at the Spreydon and Cranford street termini was carried out some * time ,ago. The time-tables for the new services will be very similar to those for the old, except that there will be more frequent trips during busy periods. This was necessitated, said Mr Thompson, by the inability of the board to use trailers with the one-man trams. The preparation of time-tables for' the n»w system is now in hand. The details of the change 7 over to one-man trams on other lines, -as provided in the board's scheme, have vet to be determined. '
