SPEED ON GRAVEL ROADS.
EXEMPTION FROM LIMIT IN SOME CASES. ; ' (wass üßocunok uuuhuk.) : WELLINGTON, March 16. As the result of a conference held in Wellington of representatives of the , North and South Island Motor Unions, coiiaty councils, and the Minister .for Transport, the department recently gazetted a speed limit of 40 miles jan ,- hour on gravel roads, to be put into operation on all gravel roads, with the exception ' of certain main arterial roads, which will he specially . ex- . empted. After an agreement between the Main Highways Board and county councils, the speed limit will apply only to gravel roads unless specially ''exempted, whereas permanently surfaced concrete roads, tar or bitumen roads, and, if the Minister agreeß, pumice and clay roads,- will remain under the present'regulations, in which the only consideration for the motorist is the' safety of the public.
