TIMARU. ■ ENGLISH PUBLIC SCHOOL BOYS. The party of English public school boys, which is at present visiting the Dominion in the course of an Empire tour, arrived in Tiinaru yesterday and' was met on arrival by the rector of the Tiinaru Boys' High School (Mr W. Thomas). The boys inspected the Timaru aiming Company's mill, and were then conveyed to the High School, and were entertained to luncheon at the rectory. A formal .welcome waß later extended to the party in the school assembly hall, when there were present Mesd&mcs B. H. Low, W. G. Ttaymond, A. L. Gee, Messrs S. D. Mason, W. D. Campbell, G. D. Virtue, A. N. Leslie, B. Wood, A. L. Goo, M. J. Knublcy, C. S. Fraser, and Drs. L- S. Talbot and Dryden, as well at Colonel Charteris, Captain A. J. Wilson, and Mr Blackie, of the touring party. ' The secondary schools of Xtw Zealand wore founded on similar lines to the public schools of the Homeland, and while the schools of the Dominion djd not have tho traditions and had not reached tho standard of the schools from which they took their patterns, they felt sure they were progressing along tho right linos aud following the best British traditions. Mr 8. D. Mason, on behalf of the board, also extended a wclcomo and said that the present was a time when the units of the Empire should keep together as closely as possible. Mr Thomas and Mr S. D. Mason welcomed the visitors. Colonel Charteris thanked them for their hospitality. Schools' in New Zealand had advanced in many ways and the opon-ftir classrooms and dormitories were something' unique. He hoped the Now Zealand schools would form touring parties to visit the Old Country. It would be for tho benefit of the Empire if this means of an interchange of ideas was quickly adopted. The Timaru High School boys then entertained their guests with musical items, after which the memorial library was visited before a cricket match and tennis matches between the school and the tourists. The party left later in thp afternoon for Oamaru to spend the night at tho Waitaki Boys' High School. Woman Bankrupt. Only one creditor was concerned in the bankruptcy of Florence Caroline Cjjuickc, and as he lives at Hastings, the meeting held at the Timaru Courthouse yesterday afternoon lapsed. Tho amount owed to the one secured creditor was, £lB 18s. There were no unsecured creditors. Assets were shown as cash in hand £2 10s, and furniture and personal effects £25, making a total of £27 10s. The surplus of assets over liabilties was £8 12s. Magistrate's Court. A sitting of the Timaru Magistrate's Court was held yesterday before Mr C. E. Orr Walker, S.M. Eric Hamlyn McKnigkfy who pleaded guilty to a charge of defaulting payment of the unemployment levy for j more than one month, was fined £1 and costs. For driving a motor-car without a license, Danipl Doyle was ordered to pay costs 10s. George Patterson was charged with plying % motor delivery van for hire without obtaining a borough license. He was also charged with operating a motor-lorry without having obtained a heavy traffic license. A fine of jOs, coats 10s, was entered on the first charge. Traffic Inspector C. ST. ANDREWS. Residents of St. Andrews met on Thursday night to say farewell to Mr and Mrs Fred D. Martin, who are leaving the district. Mr D. G. Lyall was in the chair. Mr Pat O 'Loughlin, on behalf of the residents then presented Mr Martin with a gold watch suitably engraved, together with a pipe, and to Mrs Martin a leather bag. Mr W. i.
