MONSTER FETE IN MARCH. Plans for what is expected to prove the Jjiggest fete ever held in Christchurch were reported tp a meeting on Wednesday nigut of the cointnittee in charge of the tot. Andrew'*! College fpte to be held in the college grounds on Friday "'and Saturday, March 17 ana 18. The fete is being conflicted by the old boys in aid of the fupd§ of the college, which, with the falling off in the numbers of pupils* o\ving to the existing conditions, are stated tp call for an effort of this nature. More than 500 old boys and friends of the college were, it was reported, now working on the arrangement pf the fete. These included Messrs G. Al. (Smith, general organiser, John MacGibbon, treasurer, Mrs W. McKay, ladies' organiser, and Messrs U, Ogilrie and A. L. Cropp, members t>t the executive. About 130 old boys were present at the first meeting, and ladies attended the initial gathering of the ladies' committee. It was arranged that the grounds should be decorated and illuminated with vari-coloured electric lights, stalls of all de scr iP t, ' on s bejng rajigecl round three sides of the ground, witn a band platform in the centre for concerts by city bands. The programme would ijiclqde tennis tournament?, a cricket match in fancy costume, pony rides, tugs-of-war, nail-driving, and sheaf-tossing,' and the plymg of decorated canoes on the Strowan stream which runs through portion of the grounds; the appearance of Ka]ah, Methvcn's wonder, dog, a performing pony, exhibition of 10 Angora rabbits, 800 pedigree pigeons, 100 white mica, displays of fencing and physical di'ul, and numerous other attractions, 'be organiser estimate*} the probable attendance at between 6000 and /IHAf persons.
