' 9 , WEST CHRISTCHURCB OLD BOYS. The West Chrii-tchurch District High School Old Boys' XootballClub itcld it* annual meeting: last night. The. president (Sir F. D. Waller) presided over' an attendance of 20 members. A motion"of "sympathy was passed with the relatives of tile late .T. Devan, who had been- a member of the fifth grade team. The annual report stated that the year had been extremely satisfactory from both a playing and financial viewpoint. _ Six teams had been entered in the competition, and the support accorded by the younger players indicated that the "real strength of the club had in no way deteriorated. All teams had acquitted themselves veil, the fourth grade being narrowly beaten in the final game in its section. On the social tide, successful evenings had been held regularly during,. the season, aad it *reas hoped that these activities of the club would be continued in the coming season. An important factor that had been neglected' by. the majority-of the players was-, training, and without doubt greater attention to training would have, appreciably improved ' the performances of most of the teams. The financial" statement showed an excess of assets over liabilities of £l4 19s B<L Speaking to the report, the chairman Mid that it was notable that \ "ie team which had done the most'training had finished highest up* in its section. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had assisted in any way daring the season. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr L. F. de Berry; president, Mr A. Thompson; vice-presidents, Messrs P. D. Waller, J. McWhirter, A. F. Stacey, J. H. Wilton, C. Dawson, H. Mackie, D. McPherson. and C. D. Stewart; club captain, Mr W. W. Brough;. Hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr A. T. Bell; committee, Messrs E. K, Phillips, Li. Bigg, S. Cordner, H. McWhirter, -and E. Pearce; auditor, Mr H. A. Barrett; delegates to the Canterbury Rugby Union, Messrs Thompson, Bell, and Phillips. _ On the motion of Mr Phillips it was decided that it be a recommendation to the committee that a jersey fund he instituted. It -was decided that a half-yearly meeting be held not later than June 30. Opening day was fixed for April 1. As a means of further developing the play of tho club teams, the meeting decided to recommend to" the committee that a. series of blackboard lectures on the game be given by competent officials. • FOOTBALL IN BRITAIN. / ASSOCIATION RESULTS.
