"PLEASURE BOUND."
WILLIAMSON'S REVUE COMPANY. The box plans are rapidly filling at The Bristol for the J. 0. Williamson revue which comes to the Theatre Royal on Saturday. Intending patrons should not delay in securing their seats. It is a long while since a rovuo company has como this way, and the phenomenal success it achieved in Auckland and Wellington showed that tho musical hall type of cntottainment is as welcome to day as ever it' was. Playgoers will ho glad to welcome back Miss Ella Shields, who is making her second visit to New Zealand after a Ion;; absence. "Burlington Bertie" is a classic of its kind, and the broken-down "swell" is enjoying a longer life than "The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo," or any of the other heroes of the variety stago. It is said that Miss Shields retains all her artistry. One is used to thinking of her in male evoning dress, but when she appears just before the close of the performance in a gorgeous frock, and dances like a ballet girl, she is, it is said, perfectly delightful. George Wallace, the low comedian of the company, has u distinct style of his own. He is full of humour, and the laughter he creates the whole time he is on t.he stage shown that he gauges tho tastes of the audiences to a nicety. He is said to be particularly funny as a pantomime dame. I'our of the cleverest people seen on a New Zealand stage are tho Pour Daring There aro thrco men and one dainty girl. The latter is an accomplished acrobat and dancer. She is thrown by her three male companions in a hair-raising manner, and the act thoroughly deserves the cheers with which it is always received.. One of the outstanding features of the revue is the brilliant work of tho 10 ballet girls, who are, it is said, exceptionally well drilled and very pleasing. Miriam Lester and Maggie Buckley are tho outstanding soloists, and Murray and Walton, who look like twins, created a furore in Auckland in their original dance creations. The scenery and the mounting aro in the highest J. C. Williamson, Ltd., standard.
