MONTHLY MEETING. I REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. | T.here was a full attendance of mem- [ bers at the monthly meeting of tho j North Canterbury Hospital Board, held yesterday morning. Mr H. ,7. Otley presided. | The following reports were adopted: Hospital Committee. ! The Hospital Committee reported that accounts amounting to £2662 18s 6d I were approved. Fees amounting to j £5117 lis 9d had been received since | the last mooting of the Board. The average daily number of patients in hospital during the month of December \yas 321, and for January 337. Tho committee recommended the granting of the application of tho South Canterbury Hospital Board for an extension for six months of the period of the loan of a certain amount of radium from tho Board. The pur&hase of surgical instruments for use by members of the honorary staff to the value of £B4 4s was recommended. Superintendent's Report. The Medical Superintendent reported that at the end of January 501 patients had been admitted during tho month to the Christehurch Public Hospital, with 287 remaining in at the previous month, 438 were discharged, and 28 died. Outpatients' eases numbered 58(5 and attendances 2821. Operations under anaesthetics totalled 374, and 805 treatments by massage were given. The pathological department reported that 210 outside examinations were made during December, 730 made in hospital, and 11 post-mortem examinations made: for January the respective figures were 151, Gl6, and nine. Public Health. The Public Health Committee reported that accounts amounting to £l6O 15s 7d were approved. Fees received since the last meeting were £1514 us 4d, twon-ty-four infectious diseases were notified during January, and this was unquestionably a lower number of notifications than had occurred for a great number of years, especially for scarlet fever and diphtheria. Oases of infectious diseases treated at the hospital numbered 26 in December, and 12 in Janury. On January 31 there were only three patients in the institution. At January 31, the report stated there were 146 pulmonary cases and 13 surgical cases in the Cashmere Sanatorium, and 28 at the Fresh Air Home. At the end of the mpnth there were one man and a woman waiting for admission to the Cashmere Sanatorium; there were no children waiting admission to the Fresh Air Home. During January there wore 146 attendances at the tuberculosis dispensary, two of these being soldiers. Twenty-two were new cases and 11 now cases wore notified. The Dental Department reported that in December a total of 1295 operations w-ns made, there having been 1608 attendances and 356 fresh patients examined. For January the respective figures were 1076, 1475, and 58L Benevolent Committee. The Benevolent Committee reported that accounts amounting to £1513 19s lOd were approved. Applications for benevolent relief dealt with totalled 3906, representing 14,551 persona, 'there were 41 applications for admission to institutions. Two 'shelters were being transferred from the Upper Sanatorium for tho playground at the orphanage. The statement of expenditure and receipts for the nine months ended December 31, 1932, showed an estimated deficit of £3898 ss. Tenders Accepted. , The Finance Committee reported that at a special meeting tenders for supplies front the following were accepted, and their recommendations were approved:— Christehurch Hospital and local inwaters, Wore Bros.; bread, T. Thomson; ' disinfectants, Christehurch Gas Co.; floor polish, Is. B. Harrison; interments, J. Rhind; meat, City Cash Meat Co.; milk, Christehurch Dairy Co.; printing and stationery, Willis and Aiken; taxi and ambulance hire, Sink Taxis, Ltd.; wines and spirits, Quill, Morris and Co. Jubilee Home —Milk, Mrs Bliss. Kaikoura Hospital—Bread, A. Ball; milk, F. Alexander. Lyttelton Maternity Hospital—Drugs, C. Pentecost. Tuarangi—Bread, 6. Jordan; meat, J. T. Smith; milk, W. Murray; fuel, A. G. Frew; interments, G. Hosken. For chimney sweoping only one informal tender was received, and it lias j beCn thought better not to accept a j tender. Quotations were invited for doing laundry work for the Christchurch Hospital, Sanatorium, and various other institutions, and tenders have been received, the report stated, but as a very big question is involved in this matter it was recommended that the decision should be referred to the Economy Committee. Furniture for New Home. The Furnishing Committee reported that the following tenders (at a total cost of £1635 5s 3d) were accepted for the furnishings for the new Nurses' Home:— Electro-platfcd ware and tabic ware: Walker and Hall, £744 9s. Ordinary furnishings, etc., were divided into various groups, with the following result:—A. and A. F. Roay, £197 lis 7d; Wise Bros., £73 10s 9d; F. Hutchins, £225 6s sd: B. W. Younger, £250 ss; Ban-. Ltd., £4 2s Cd; J„ Ballantyne and Co., £74 ss; B. L. Hart, Ltd. (spring mattresses), £65 15s. ■ i
