Thornton, carrying ipore than half the pool ,in the Goro High-weight Hack Handicap, appeared to have the race won opposite the lawn stand, . but stopped quickly, and Night Hose, vigorously ridden, won by a short head. O'Connor's explanation that his mount was dying as the post was approached, was accepted by the Judicial Committee!. Both Shock and Jack a' Dandy were better fancied than Worship, in the Longford Hack Handicap, but once the straight was entered, neither had a chance with the last-named, who wop ■yell from Mayam. Stcoton obttincd a break on the field over the first Ave furlongs in the Racing Club Handicap. v After being given a breather he drew out again after making the far turn and lasted long enough to beat Red Sea by half a length. Mocast, after loiiflg ground at the start, was patiently handled in the Progressive Trot, and/Nelson'# Fortune and Young Frank led him into the straight." Finishing wide out Mocast beat Young Frank home comfortably. An outsider, Johnnie, carried tli? favourite, Clatter, off his feet at the end of half a mile in the Novice Handicap, and won well from Island Linnet. With the course to his liking Palermo was m&do a good favourite in the Croydon Handicap, but after being well E laced throughout, had no chance with is stablemate, Royal Duke, wh'o beat hifii by four lengths. The Electric Trot was run in a blinding rainstorm. Sure, a good favourite, was never further back than third. He waited on Peter Mitchell till the straight was reached and thenf drew out to win easily from Blue Mountain Queen, who skipped twice in the last furlong. There was thunder and lightning accompanied by heavy rain, during the running of the last race, for which Amelita was made a good favourite. Slaemish, Lochard, and Bed Sunset led into the straight. Then Amelita put in a good run, and seemed to beat Lochard by a good head, but the judge declared a dead-heat. The ' Smuggler and Signaller were withdrawn from all engagements, owing to the death of Mrs F. Price, wife and mother of the owners, which occurred this morning. ACCEPTANCES FOR TO-DAY.
