♦ PREPARING THE GROUND. SHIPPING SUBSIDIES QUESTION. (BRITISH OFFICIAL. WIRELESS.) (Received January 17, 7 p.m.) RUGBY, January 16. At Geneva to-day the Economic Section of the Preparatory Committee for the World Economic Conference arrived at a decision- concerning industrial agreements. It suggested that for certain categories of agreements, cartels, etc., governments should not intervene, but in the case of others, such as those concerning coal, wood, wheat, and transport, the help of the governments was necessary in order to reacli a solution. The committee resolved to recommend the abolition of the subsidies being granted by governments to shipping ■companies.
