BOLTS OF EXTRA STRENGTH.
There arc certain points bf extra strain on a chassis where the ordinary bright steel bolts are not strong enough for safety. In such places only hightensile bolts should be used. These can be obtained from the agents for the various steel companies, or can be specially made from axle steel or other suitable stock by a well-equipped garage. One place where such bolts are necessary is at the attachment to the chassis of the quarter-elliptic springs. This is a point of great strain, and the writer has seen a serious accident occur through the breakage' of the front securing bolts on a car so sprung. If trouble is experienced with breakage of parts, such as mudguard stay or lamp bracket bolts, high tensile steel will solve the problem without the need for extra supports. Another point where it may be used with advantage is for attachment of bumper, bars. These, being heavy and subject to unusual strains, may break away after being in use for some time, and the collapse of a front bumper bar at high npeed might easily cause a bad smash.
