RAI RIVER RESERVE

BEQUEST FOR FUNDS TO ERECT BRIDGE. The Pelorus Scenic Board has written to the Canterbury Automobile Association asking for financial assistance to enable it to erect a foot suspension bridge over the Rai river, near its junction with the Pelorns • rarer. Such a bridge, it is pointed out, would give access to a fine area of bush and scenery which is otherwise isolated, a - though within a few chains of the IS el-son-Blenheim highway. The letter states that the engineer to the Marlborough County Council has prepared an estimate of the work, which will cost about £320, of which amount £42 10s is at present in hand. The necessary timber and steel wire have been presented for the bridge. The Canterbury Automobile Association will consider the request at its meeting on Monday week.
