For the expenditure of £6OOO there was a chance of bringing £2,000,000 into the country, said the Duke of Montrose at the annual Meeting of -he Scottish Travel Association. The association. he said, was making known the advantages of holidaying in Scotland to people who lived outside the country. Tf by their efforts they could induce "00,000 people to visit Scotland for an average period of ten days each they could take it that from early morn iug" until late at night each person might reasonably spend £1 a day. That •would mean the bringiug of £2,000,000 into Scotland. The association had recently broadcasted an appeal for £6OOO. They* eoukl not push Scottish interests without the money.

The June number of "Japan.'' an overseas travel magazine, has an interesting article dealing with the use by the Japanese of wood blocks for making engravings in colour. Tn addition, there are some very tine photographic views of Japanese waterways and buildings. In the July number of the samp publication there is an article by F\. Fv. "fvawakami, whose recent book on the Eastern crisis caused so much discussion, dealing with the establishment of Manchoukuo, which was born in the turbulent scene of Japan's military intervention in Manchuria. Both magazines have many other attractive features, and are worth more than n- passing glance.
