CYCLING.

CONTROL OP AMATEURS. PAP AN LI CLUB MEETS. The statement* that'were made by Messrs G. L. Angus and AV. F. Wilcockson at the last meeting of the Canterbury Amateur Cycling Centre were refuted at a meeting at the Papanui Amateur Cycling Club, nsla iast evening. Mr C. Hill presided. . Mr J. Sturrock said that it had appeared ■ji the newspapers that Mr ft. L. Angus had stated that be bad resigned from the Club because the club had approached the cash body with a view to joining it and securing control of all cycling. Mr Angus had previously atrongly urged for amalgamation. A week before" lie wrote bis letter to tne centre, he wrote to the Papanui Club, assurin.r it of bis belp at any of its meetings. Mr Angus had applied for the removal or any suspension that was imposed on him by the centre, through the action of the aa»i of which he was a member. Continuing, Mr Sturrock said that Mr Angus was still » member, and the chairman of the Cycling Centre and several other • delegates -who T/ere asked to remove the suspension were members of the club also. At that meeting tiie centre had decided to approach th« cash body in connexion with their Ashburton to Christchurch' race. ■■ ■ Mr Sturrock said he considered the club had been most lenielft with W. F. Wilcockson. The Papanui Club had done more for amateur cjrclists" than any other club in New Zealand. The whole trouble was that the federation was a body set up to get affiliation with the Cycliste Internationale, and now this had been accomplished they were not working as they should. The members of the- Federation, instead of working in the interests of cyclists in general, whether 'cash or amateur, were only concerned about the body to which they belonged as members. . With tlxo exception of Mr W. J. Walter, none of the federation had been cyclists. ' „ It was decided to call a meeting of *ll amateur cyclists, snd to »sk the xn«inMtf cf the federation, the Cycling Centre, together with Mbssts Angus and Wilcockson, to attend.
