LORRY DRIVERS BEFORE COURT.

CONVEYING PICNIC PARTIES AN OFFENCE. (MMS ASSOCIATION TXI.EGXAK.) WELLINGfTON, August 12. Stated to be the first prosecutions of the kind in Wellington, charges of carrying passengers on motor vehicles not licensed for the purpose were preferred against two lorry drivers in the Magistrate's Court. The city solicitoi stated that it had been the practice for goods lorries to be carry picnic parties and football teams, which was contrary to the terms of the new regulations, unless the vehicles were specially licensed. The cases had been brought to draw the attention of lorry owners to the regulation. The defendants were convicted and discharged.
