F. R. Brown (Surrey), though chosen to go to Australia, principally as u bowler, made a hurricane 212 at the Oval in 165 minutes, recalling G. LJessop at his iiercest. Brown broke two bats and hit the ball seven times out of the Oval. He scored 15 lours. D. it. Jardine's 126 was faultless, it occupied 190 minutes. H. Sutclifte's 182 in 250 minutes synchronised with the Yorkshire committee voting him 400 guineas m recognition of liis hundred centuries in first-class cricket. L. E. G. Ames's 133 took him 1»0 minutes. This was his fifth century of the season. M. W. Tate was bowling in tine form. H. Larwood and W. Voce were also effective against Lancashire. V W. 0. Jupp completed the double of 100 wickets and 1000 runs for tho ninth season in succession, boating W. G. Grace's previous amateur record bf eight seasons. . . Gloucester, in the second innings, scored 341, C. C Dacre (tho New Zealander) getting 95. India won by oo runs. . County Championship.
