FIRES.

JACKSON'S SCHOOL BURNED. As the result of bush fires in <he vicinity of Jacksous, a small village on the West Coast line, near Otira, the local school was completely destroyed on Wednesday, shortly after mid-day. Eire broke out la?t evening in tho premises of Messrs Manning and Dorreen, wholesale crockery merchants, at 221 Tuam street, and considerable damage was done to the ground floor before the brigade extinguished the flames. The building was left shortly after five o'clock by the occupants, and the origin of tho fire is a mystery. The grouud floor, containing many shelves, stocked with goods, was gutted on one side, and the ceiling was badly burned. Some of the contents were destroyed, but the fire was prevented from spreading to the top floor, which the firm uses as a wireless and radio workroom. The building is insured with Lloyds'.
