The season's strangest Channel aspirant is the legless American, Charles Zimmerman, who intends to swim from Dover to Calais and return non-stop. He expects to be in the water 70 hours. He claims to hold the world's championship endurance swimming record, 100 hours, established at Honolulu. He lost his legs in a tram accident when a nowsboy at Chicago.
