In a Papal encyclical appointing the Feast of Corpus Christi, May 26th, a day of prayer by the faithful, to be followed by eight days' renunciation of amusements and recreations, as an atonement for the evils of the present day including atheism, Communism, corruption, and exaggerated nationalism, the Pope compares the present world social economics to the Biblical deluge. The Encyclical contains the following striking. passage:— Q'hoso very few who appear to have their hands on the world's wealth, and whoso speculations were and>are largely tho cause of so much woe, are often themselves the first and most notorious victims, dragging into the abyss the fortunes of countless others.
