NEW ZEALANDERS.
o AUSTRALIAN'S IMPRESSIONS COMPARISON WITH OTHER COUNTRIES. (UKITED I'BJBSS ASSOCIATION—DT ELZCTWO TELEGEAr H—OOPYRiaHT.) SYDNEY, May 10. Mr E. Hirst, chairman and general manager of the British General Electric Company, who has just arrived from New Zealand, says the depression has not affected New Zealand as seriousjy as some other countries, for, from outside appearances, everyone seems to be happy and well dressed. The grumbling about conditions in New Zealand was caused through lack of ability to comparo conditions there with conditions among other nations and peoples, rather than the actual hardships that one met with in everyday life. "Ono of the most astouuding features T experienced on my trip was tho spirit and tenacity shown by the people at Hastings and Napier in the rebuilding operations undertaken after the earthquake," ho added.
