I PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO THK *REBS.) GREYMOUTH, April 15. Mr aiul Mrs Jack Steel, who have b?en spending a holiday on the West Coast, returned yesterday to Christcliurch. Mr (). Handle has been elected secretary of the Westport Chamber of Commerce. There were eight applicants for the i>osition. Air S. I'. Todd, of the Wcstport SelfHelp Stores, lias been transferred to Dunedin, and loft for the south yesterday. Mr L. R. llobbs, of the literary staff of the Greymouth "Evening Star," has resigned his position, aqd leaves next Thursday en route to Sydney. Messrs 11. J. Bignell and 11. Wild (Ilokitika) left yesterday to attend a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board- at Christchurch. Miss Borgia MeSherry, who leaves on Saturday for Dublin, was entertained yesterday afternoon at afternoon tea by her musical lady friends and presented with a pair of gloves. Later she was met by the president of the West Coast Competitions Society, for which body she had been official accompanist for several years, and presented with a cheque in recognition oL' her services, first as an outstanding competitor and later as the official accompanist to the Society. Miss Jessie Debenham arrived yesterday from Wellington on a visit to her mother. The Rev. A. O. Harris, of Hamilton East, the newly-appointed minister of St. Paul's Methodist Church, Greymouth, arrived yesterday. His induction took place last evening. Tho Rev. G. Stockwell, Superintendent of the Nelson district, conducted the service and was assisted by the Rev. G. Foston, of Westport. Mr and Mrs J. Coyle, who have been visiting AVellington, have returned to Greymouth. School Committee. As thirteen nominations have been received for tho nine seats on the Grey Main School Committee, an election will be necessa^'. Herd-Testing Tho West Coast Herd-Testing Association has issued tho averages for March, which compare favourably with those of the better months of the season. Tho main figures aro:— AVERAGE PER COW. A protest has been forwarded by the Inangahua Miners' Union to the Minister for Pensions, drawing attention to the hardships which will bo entailed by the proposed cut in tho miners' phthisis pensions, and also in the case of widows' pensions.
