ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.
I .WORK OP THE WEEK. Soma very good work was carried out by the St. John Free Ambulance for the week, and at 5 p.m. yesterday 42 calls liad been responded to—all but three of whjch necessitated transport to hospitals. The greatest number of calls received on any one day of the "week -was eleven, on Tuesday. District calls were responded to from Kaiapoi, Lyttelton, and Glentunnel. The total distance eovered by the St. John Ambulances for' the month of February was 1820 miles, which included seventeen different centres throughout Canterbury, and amounted to 184 separate calls. < Ambulance Divisions. Members of the No. 3 Ambulance Division paraded at the Brigade rooms on Thursday evening. Superintendent P. Ash worth was in charge, and an attendance of twenty was recorded. After the inspection the evening was spent in demonstrating the different methods of bandaging and splinting. •' » « The Linwood Hover Seout Ambulance Division met at their "Den," 24 St. Hilliers street, Linwood, on Saturday. There was an attendance of 13 members, and Acting-Superintendent J. Stokes was in charge. The Divisional Surgeon, Dr. H. T. Jennings, was also in attendance, and later gave a very interesting lecture on blood circulation, at the conclusion of which the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Nursing Divisions. The Christchurch Nursing Division met as usual on Monday evening at the Brigade Booms. Mrs Bell presided over an excellent attendance, and after public duties had been arranged for the St. John Free Ambulance, members wore marched to the Navy League Hall, where a Corps lectors' on anaesthetics was given by Dr. Allison. Members were warned that a church parade would be'held" on April 3rd. Names of helpers were handed in for the refreshment rooms at All Nations Fair. The Lyttelton Nursing Division held their weekly parade in the Y.W.C.A. rooms, when there was a record attendance. Several new members were enrolled and with the rapid growth of this Division comes a greater need for larger class-rooms than are at present available. - ! Tie work of the evening was carried, out under Mr F. Rudd and consisted of a lecture, and practice in drill and transport. Some first aid work was also done. The first aid and cadet class were taken by Dr. Upham, Divisional Surgeon, in a lecture on fractures and dislocations. • # • Members of the Sclwyn Nursing Division paraded at the Brigade rooiits on Tuesday evening. Mrs Angus, lady superintendent, was in charge, and there was an attendance of 30 members on parade. After the usual weekly duties were arranged, practical first aid work was carried out. Later in the evening Lieutenant-Colonel F. W. W. Dawson, Corps Surgeon, gave a very interesting lecture on food values and digestion. • • . The Beckenham Nursing Division held their usual weekly parade -on Thursday evening, at the Brigade Booms. Thero was an excellent attendance and Mr Gay was in charge. Two probationary members were enrolled, and after the roll call and inspection, public duties were arrangcl for the St. John Free Ambulance. Mr J. Dickson, Corps Superintendent, 'was also in attendance and supervised members in triangular bandaging, and first aid work. Mr Dickson later compliraented members on their showing, especially the junior members.
