NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.

WEEK-END TIDES. It will be high tide on tlie teach t]o-day at 1.50 a.m. and 2.30 p.m., and in the river at 2.36 a.m. and 3.16 « p.m. To-morrow (Sunday), on the beach at 2.59 a.m. and 3.17 p.m., and in the river at 3.45 a.m. and 4.03 p.m. Rawhiti Golf Club. The opening of the Rawhiti Golf Club's season has been fixed for Sunday next, when a mixed foursome will be ployed over 18 holes. With the exception of the new No. 2 green, which is to be given more time to establish itself, the course will be played over the same holes as were in use last season. Temperance Union. The monthly meeting of the New Brighton branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held an Thursday, Mrs M. Moses (vice-president) in tho chair. The devotions were taken by Mrs S. Bailey and the Temperance fact "Guard Your Race," was given by Mrs J. DunGreetings were received from the president, Mrs H. M. Hall, who is in Wanganui. Notice was given that the 21st anniversary celebrations of the Union would be held in June next. Mrs D. G. Ashford (the wife of the new Presbyterian pastor) was welcomed, and addressed the meeting. , Social Evenings. The weekly whist evening, hold in aid of the New Brightou Free Kindergarten funds was well attended, and prizes were won by Mesdamcs A. McCallum and Chris. Smith, and Mr E. Lubin. Central New Brighton School Committee's usual card ovening, in aid of the school funds, which, in view of pending legislation, need all the assistance possible, resulted in wins being recorded by Mesdames E. Campbell, W. Langley, and Sutton, Messrs 11. Robinson, J. Morton, Phillpot, son., and J. Mfi-ritt, jun. Next week being Easter Week, the games will be played on Tuesday. Personal. Miss Venus Patten, who is to bo married shortly, was the guest of honour at a kitchen evening, given by Mis 3 May Moses. Musical items were given by Miss Bonnie Nelson, and competitions were Won by Miss E. Alexander and «B. Cook. Amongst those present were Mesdamcs W. Langley, D. Turner, E. Patten, M. Moses, and tho Misses Elsie Alexander. V enus Patten, Marjorie Hill, Christine Gordon, Thelma Burgess, Edna Gott, Bonnie Nelson, Alice and Mary Moses. Mona Turner, Beatrice Cook, Mary Hay! Enid Langley, and Dorothy Moses. Miss Patten received many useful presents, and was heartily congratulated by members of the local Hockey Club, of which she has been both secretary and captain. Bowling. In the final for the Williams Shield. Skipworth, L. Lawrence, C. Evans, and W. Hooker beat Dean, Matson, Holloway, and Bisman. W. Chapman, the skip of the R.S.A. team, which plays in tho final of the champion of champion rinks to-day, was for' some years a prominent member of the New Brighton Club. Methodist Church. On Sunday evening next, at tho Central New Brighton Methodist Church the oratorio, "The Crucifixion," will be rendered by the choir; the soloists will bo Mr W. Spratt and Mr W. Francis. Mr A. McLean will conduct, and Mr G. Sincock will accompany, and there will be an augmented choir. Eastertide Visitors. . The New Brighton land agents report a fair number of lettings having been effected for periods covering the Easter holidays, one agent having let three times as many houses as were let last year. Most of the visitors will be from the country. NORTH BEACH. Temperance Union. At the monthly meeting of the North Brighton branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, Mrs J. F. Eames presided over a good attendance. Mrs E. Parker gave the scientific fact. An invitation was received to attend a service at the Salvation Army Citadel, Christchurch, on Easter Saturday, at 2.15 p.m., in connexion with the visit of General and Mrs Higgins. It was decided to hold the Cradle 801 l picnic on April 2nd. The Band of Hope is to Btart meeting at the end of April, and the Superintendent and committee will be appointed at the next meeting of the Union. Mrs Florancc reported that a combined service for' the members of the "Y" branches from Christchurch and suburbs would be held in the Presbyterian Church, New Brighton, on April 21st. Mrs Goldman contributed a sacred solo. Being members afternoon, many recipes and cuttings from newspapers were read and enjoyed. Afternoon tea was served. The prayer meeting is to be held at tho residence of Mrs Clarence, Racecourse road, on the last Thursday in the month. Surf Club Dance. The North Beach Surf Club held one of its popular, dances in tho Peace Memorial liall on Thursday evening. Amongst those present were Misses I. Knight, Molly Burns, Kathleen Burns, D. Kelly, M. Cooper, T. Henderson, F. Alabaster, B. Mair, R. C. Hogg, D. Turner, L. E. Moor, and S. Hamilton. Music was supplied by Mr L, B. Sallceld's Orchestra.
