SUMNER ITEMS.
ROWING. Tho Sumner-Itedcliffs Club held the heats of the pair oars during the week over a half mile course. Tho results were as follows: 0. Johnstone (stroke) and C. Truscott (bow) beat C. S. Sutherland (stroke) and J. Gant (bow), A. A. Sutherland (stroke) and A. Grafton (bow) beat P. Oliver (stroke) and E. G, Arnold (bow). The Nicholson fours and the final of the pair oars will be rbwed tomorrow. Life-Saving. To-morrow the Sumner Club will hold its club competitions. The Junior Cup, hold by A. Dawe, and the Newburgh Cup, hojd by V. McPhail, are Binglehanded rescue events. The Mayoral Cup is a three-man event, and was won last year by Sutherland (belt), Miles (reel), and C. McPhail (line and suscitation). The position of beltman is chosen prior to the event, but the other two places are decided by ballot. Tenuis. Furthor results in the club competitions are as follows: — Men's doubles—A. G. Gurnsey and E. T. Salyesen (plus 15) beat J. Heslop and R. Lally (plus 3-6 15) 6-3, 6-3. Women's Doubles, somi-final—Mrs Brooke and Mrs Daw© (minus 3-6 15) beat Misses Hazel and Lois Cook (scr), 6-4, 6-4. Mixed Doubles, semi-final—Miss R. Boulton and C. Plimmer (minus 15) beat Mr and Mrs R. Lally (plus 2-6 15) 2-6, 6-4, 8-6. Women's Championship Singles, semiAnal —Miss A. Smith beat MisS S. Boulton, 6-3, 6-4. Women's Handicap Singles—Miss M. Paterson (plus 4-6 15) beat Miss M. Whitfield (plus 3-6 15) 9-5. Bowling. In the final of the. rinks championship Wilson, TJssher, Reynolds, and Forrest boat Caesar, Neville, t New. burgh, and Hampton. In the third round of the second life of the handicap singles Chamber minus 5, beat Webb 6. Opening Daya. The Sumner Rugby Football Club will be tho first of tho local winter sports clubs to open its season, an opening practice being down for St. Leonard's square this afternoon. Next Saturday the Association Football Club will hold its opening, whilo on the following Saturday both the Redcliffs hockey clubs will gather at'Linwood Park. The Richmond Hill' Golf Club will also hold its opening day when a mixed foursome event will bo played.
