A. & P. ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Canterbury A. and P. Association was held last night, Mr L. E. 0. Maefarlane presiding over a good attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet, a summary of which has already been published, were adopted. President's Address. In his presidential address, Mr Maefarlane said that the Association was behind the Winter Show, which must, in bis opinion, grow. Belations between the Association and the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association were of the best, and there was no doubt that manufacturing must absorb a good deal _ of the surplus population. The Association recognised the difficulties of manufacturers who were hemmed in with all sorts of restrictions. With reference to the Eoyal Show, Mr Maefarlane said that all concerned in its success were deserving of congratulation. There was no doubt that visitors to the Show were impressed with its quality and conduct. It was unfortunate that the recent meat competition had not been attended by better results so far as Canterbury was concerned, continued Mr Maefarlane. The province was right out of the
picture and "prime Canterbury" to-day was a myth, in consequence of which it was necessary to regain the province's lost reputation. The finances of the Association were in a bad way, but at the same time were in keeping with world conditions. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr W. J. Jenkins (Sheffield); vice-president, Mr C. G. Jarman (Greendale); hon. treasurer, Mr J. O. McGillivray (Christchurch); General Committee, Messrs John Brooks (Irwell), J. C.
