The Emperor of Japan was informed that two horses in his escort were slightly hurt- by the bomb which was flung at the Imperial carriage recently. His Majesty immediately sent a message to inquire how the animals were progressing, and he ordered that each horse should receive a special Imperial gift of 71b of carrots.
The 21 members of the British Licensing Commission—three of whom are women—entertained their chairman, Lord Amulree, at a dinner recently. The toasts were drunk in wine, cider cup, and water, according to the tastes and opinions of the individual members.
