DEPARTURE FROM DARWIN. AEROPLANE LIGHTENED. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELXCTSIC TELEORAPH-^COPTEIGHT.) (Received January 20th, 7 p.m.) DARWIN, January 21. Air Commodore C.' E. KingsfordSmitk left with the air mail at 6.40 o'clock this morning for Newcastle Waters. He had to empty a portion of his 300-gallons of fuel and oil before the Southern Star was able to rise.: Then the aeroplane got away excellently. The ground was firm in spite of six inches of fain during the past sis days.
RECORD FOR COMMERCIAL MACHINE. (BIUTISJ? OFFICIAL WIRELESS.) RUGBY, January 19. By reaching Port Darwin 12£ days after leaving England, Air Commodore C. E. Kingsford-Smith has established a fresh record for the journey in a commercial machine.
