SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. .Mrs Williams (Geraldine) is spending a few days in Christchurch. Mrs F. A. Raymond, Beverley road, is the guest of Mrs Hamilton (Sumner). Mrs Howard Tripp, Wai-tti road, nas returned from a visit to Orari Gorge. Mr and Mrs Meredith Kaye and family (Christchurch) are spending a week's holiday at the Grand Hotel.
Miss V. M. Cargill and party (4) motored to the Grand Hotel for a brief visit to Timaru.
Mr W. P. Yeoman (Wellington) arrived at the Grand Hotel on Monday tor a short stay in Timaru. , Mr and Mrs Craig F. North, (Napier) have registered at the Grand Hotel for a short stay in Timaru. Mrs A. A. Scott and Miss Maude Wilson, Bidwill street, are staying at Lake Tekapo. Mrs M. A. Raymond, Wai-iti road, v. ho has been staying at Milford, returned home yesterday.
Mrs Findlay and Miss Jean Findlay (Hamilton) are staying at "To Kairnga," Wai-iti road. Mrs W. Ls. Grac:'e and Miss Joan Oracie (Christchurch). who have been staying at Fairlie, have returned home. Miss A. Lee (Ashburton) is the guest of Mrs R. Longson. Wilkin street. Temuka. Mr and Mrs Roland Smith (Christchurch) are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs E. Blackmore ("St. Leonards," Teinuka). Mr and M.rs C. \V. F. Hamilton and Miss Hamilton (Fairlie) arrived at tho Grand Hotel on Tuesday for a short holiday in Timaru.
Mrs D. Napier (Christchurch) was the guest of Mrs W. D. Napier, "Te Kiteroa," for the Speight-Napier wedding yesterday. Mrs George Hanmer (Christchurch) ii the guest of Mrs Arthur Hope ("Tunianako." Wai-iti road) for the Priddie-Orford wedding to-day. Mrs Polhill and Miss Kitty Polhill (Rotbir-rham). who arc staying at Cromlea, North street, will leave to-day t<> be the guests of Mry Colin Douglas (Waimate). Recent arrivals afc the Grosvenor Hofcel were Mrs C. H. Blundell (New Plymouth). Misses M. and R. Nixon (Christchurch), Miss B. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. WAITOHI. In pleasant surroundings the annual picnic of the Waitohi branch of the Women's Institute was held on Mr £L Scwell's farm on Wednesday last, members and their friends and children being present in large numbers. An enjoyable afternoon was spent in games and competitions. A "butterfly hunt" proved most exciting, and was won by Beatrice Nolan and Harold Moore. Mrs E. Parish won the first prize for quoits. Master Keith Branch winning a competition for boys, :md Miss M. Stratford for girls. Mrs Parish's prize was given by Mrs G. -Kerslake. A "musical walking-stick" competition was won by Mrs Crombie. Utcrnoon tea was served on the lawn and games were continued until the evening, sweets and nuts being distributed before the close of the function. On behalf of the members* of the Waitohi Institute, Mrs Parish thanked Mr and Mrs Sewell for their hospitality in having the picnic on their farm, and all joined in singing "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows," followed by cheers.
