CHINESE BANDITS.
JAPANESE DRIVE FOR ERADICATION. (UNITED rftUBS ASSOCIATION—BT KLXCTHIO TELEQBAPH—COPYftICHT ) SHANGHAI, December 21. The Japanese drive in Manchuria for the eradication of Chinese influence in tho three eastern provinces is aimed principally at Chinese bandits and irregular soldiers who had been since tho defeat of the Manchurian general in tho Nonni river battle. Two Japanese regiments are concentrating on the Chinchow drivo against the Chinese, who are resisting stubbornly. . Japanese bombing aeroplanes at dawn to-day attacked the Chinese positions at Changtu, Tien-kiatung, and Fakumen, inflicting heavy casualties. General Minami, the former Japanese "War Minister, has arrived in Manchuria, and iutends to remain a fortnight to make a personal investigation, because he believes tho responsibility for the present situation is his, since he issued the original orders for the Japanese occupation of Manchuria.
