SPEEDWAY RACING.
BROADSIDING AND FIREWORKS ON SATURDAY. An exceptionally big holiday programme of exciting broadsiding in addition to a magnificent display of real, fireworks in the big arena will be staged at Monica Park Speedway on Saturday night, and,;a record crowd is expected. The broadsiding events will yield thrilling motor-cycle duels, as a very large field of expert riders will take part, including Sid Jackson and Wally Hull, the crack English; r>ders; Norm. Gray, who startled the crowd .with his great sp.eed last week; Charlie Blacklock, back from England; Percy Lunn, who is in fine form; Reg. Hanby, of Wellington; Jadk Oakley, of Ashburton; "Shorty" Wicks. and other riders of the strong contingent. The question is. Can Lunn' beat. Norm, Gray in the Chevrolet Gold Helmet series, after Gray's proof of his return to his beßt form? The duel should yield the best broadsidini; seen at the Park for many a long day. There will be handicap, scratch, and match rffces. In addition. Wainoni Limited, will present a grand .fireworks display on the grassed arena. Special pre: parations have been made for what should be a dazzling show.' Then there will be special music- and the spirit of carnival to round off a perfect open-air entertainment-.
A conger eel scaling half a hundredweight was stranded at Southhead recently. There are now some 236,000 people living in London County Council houses. Houses and tenements to the number of over 4'2,0Q0 have been built by the Council since the Armistice. -Ants have been observed to set broken legs of injured companions in a kind of piaster.
