LABOURER HURT.
CLAIM AGAINST FREEZING COMPANY. A case in which a labourer claimed compensation from the New Zealand He frigerating Co., Ltd., as a result of a Call in wljieh he injured hip left arm and shoulder, was heard ia the Arbitration Court yesterday afternoon. His 'Honour Mr Justice Frazer presided and with him were Messrs W. Cecil Prime (employers' representative), and A. L. M'onteith (employees' representative). The plaintiff was Thomas Charles Strata ton, of Spreydon. The! statement of claim set out that Stratton was employed on July 28th, 1931, at the New Zealand Kefrigerating Oo.'g works at Islington, his average weekly earnings being £7 10s. On the morning of July 28th, when he was on hi* way to the pelt store, ho slipped fintj fell, injuring Ms loft arm and shoulder severely. He worked for a week thereafter and then had to leave off work as a result .of the accident. Ho was still unable to work. He claimed compensation under the Workers' Compensation Act, 1922, from the company. The defence was a general denial. After hearing <medical evidence and logal argument his Honour said that the Act made allowance not only for th'j time actually spent in employment, but also for a reasonable period in which the employee could get' to work and return home. The Court found that compensation should bo at the rate of 100 per cent, for the first four weeks after the accident, and then at 60 per cent, up to the present time and for the next six- weeks. At the end of'that period plaintiff was to be examined medically with a view to ascertaining the extent of his disability then.
