. OAKES SHIELD MATCH. A match for the Oakes Challenge Shield was fired at Ashburton on Saturday between the Sydenham Defence Rifle Club (challengers) and the Ashburton Defence ' Rifl« Club (holders). This was the second mAtch this season, the holders being sn«c§ss£ul against the Christchurch Club two weeks ago. Ashburton shot exceptionally well and beat - f Sydenham by 781 points to 762. CANTERBURY MEETING. The executive of the Canterbury Rifle Association has decided, owing to the uncertainty of the ammunition that is to be on issue at the coming championship meeting.to be held at Redcliffs on Boxing Day, to allow all competitors to use their own as on issue to them from the Defence Department with the exception-of 1930 or later. The secretary has received correspondence on- the mattfer from Major-Genwal W. L. H. Sinclair-Bur-gess, Commander of the New Zealand Military "Forces, assuring the executive that the whole of the ammunition now held by the Department has been' reclassified with'a result that it will be satisfactory to all riflemen at the forthcoming championship meeting. The meeting, which is the tenth annual one to be held by the present Association, promises to be most successful. Already a large number of entries has been received, including several from the West Coast and Dunedin. KAIAPOI CLUB. The Kaiapoi Defence Rifle Club fired its second Ashby Cup competition on Saturday afternoon. The conditions being seven shots at 300, 500, and 600 yards. The follow-' ing were the leading seores:—
