SWIMMING.

KAIAPOI CLUB. . The Kaiapoi Amateur Swimming Club opened its season at the public baths on Saturday afternoon, when there was a fair attendance in spite of bad weather. The Mayor (the Rev. W. 11. A. Vickery), in declaring the season open, congratulated the club members on the enthusiasm shown, and wished them a successful season. During the afternoon E. McConville gave an exhibition swim of 100 yards, breaking the baths record for the 50 yards distance (28 2-ssec), his time being 27 3-ssec. The following events were held: — Men's Race, 50yds—First heat: O. Ball 1, A. Green 2. Second heat: L. Chapman 1, E. Ball 2. Final: O. Ball 1, E. Ball 2. Men's Dive —A. Green 1, L. Chapman 2. Relay Race, 3 a-side, 75yds—Somerfleld 1, Kaiapoi 2. Ladies' Race, 50yds—J. Diepenheim 1, D. Morris 2. Learners' Race, width —M. Livingstone 1, L. Shaw 2.
