— ■■ " j PROMISING CONDITIONS FOR j SPORTS. For the "Christchurch Ski Club's j annual winter sports, which are being | held at Arthur's Pass to-day and to- j morrow a . full and interesting programme of events has been arranged. While some enthusiasts have been on 1 the- grounds practising during the week, a larger number went up last night, while still more are leaving Christchurch this morning. On the Sunday of last year's sportß over 1000 people travelled to Arthur's Pass by the excursion trains. The races, which will be held on the Hill's Peak grounds, include men's and women's downhill championships this morning, with novice and handicap events later, and men's and women's slalom championships, followed by jumping and other events on Sunday. Ail events are open, but only to members of recognised ski and winter sports clubs, and the championships carry the Christchurch Ski Club titles and trophies. Although the weather during the week has not given any greater depth of snow, reports received yesterday stated that there was six inches of frozen snow at Arthur's Pass railway station. The Railway Department is funning excursion trains to-morrow at 8 a.m. (through train), S.lO a.m., aud probably a third train.
