ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.
WORK OF THE WEEK. Ihe Sc. John- Free Ambulance responded to 39 calls during the week and after receiving first aid by members of the Brigade, 80 were cases necessitating transport to hospital; The greatest number of calls received on any one day was ten, on Saturday. With tho races and the Winter Show, the Brigade lias had a particularly l.usy week, but in spite of this the members are keen and anxious to avail themselves of every opportunity to do public duties. Each division, however, is allotted its fair share in the work of tho week. Twelve cases received first-aid attention at the Winter Show, alone, and these, for the greater part, included fainting, headaches, and minor cuts and bruises, principally amongst thosa engaged on machinery. Nursing Division. Members of the Sehvyn Nursing Division held their weekly parade on Tuesday evening, in the . Brigade rooms, in Gloucester street. Mrs Angus, lady .superintendent, presided over a largo attendance and after the inpec'tion arranged for public duties afc the. Wintor Show (Saturday), ambulance (Monday and Thursday), and North Hagloy Park on the Saturday afternoon. Later in tho evening Ser-geant-Major I ( add attended, and gave instruction in stretcher drill, which «'as much appreciated by the members vj ~A 4> 'lbo Uhristehureh -Suiting Division rnct-on Monday evening in the Brigade rooms. Tho lady superintendent presided over an attendance of 31 members, and after the inspection the division responded to an invitation by attending a lecture, by the Superintendent of tho Christchurch Fire Brigade, held iii tho Navy League Hall. Public duties were afterwards arranged for tho Winter Show, St.. John Free Ambulance, and the various nlaying fields on Saturday afternoon. After the business was concluded Mrs ■A t Bishop, District Superintendent, on behalf of the division presented Mrs .-Pricker, the late superintendent, with a crystal vase as a token of appreciation for her splendid service and help while with the Division. Mrs Pricker suitably responded, and the mooting closed. Members_ of _ the No. 1 Girl Guide Nursing Division paraded on Tuesday evening, in the Brigade rooms, when there was a good attendance of both members and cadets. After the business of the'evening. Miss G. Donaldson conducted a question bee on first aid_ and home nursing work, after which members were put through practests in first aid. Miss J. Harper (Corps secretary) who was present, took charge of tho cadet division for the evening, and put them through a series of first aid tests. At the conclusion of the parade, arrangements were made for members to do public duty, on the St. John Free Ambulance.
• The Bockenham Nursiujr Division held a very successful parade on Thursday evening, when Mrs Gay, Lady Superintendent, presided over a good attendance of members. The work of the evening was in the form of a lecture on the "Digestive Organs," by Dr. Bevan-Brown, who illustrated his talk by means of a blackboard, which members very much appreciated. One serious case was reported, when a hockey player, on North Hagley' Park, received first aid attention for an injured hand and back, and had to be removed on a stretcher. After the parade, public duties were arranged for. the basketball and hockey fields, the Winter Show, and the St. John Free Ambulance. -x- ■ * Apart from tho public duty being carried out at the Winter Show, the St. John Ambulance Brigade ' have established a side show in-tho annex, where games of skill, chocolate games, bran-tub, and a coal guessing competition are being conducted under Mr W. Thomson, organiser for the St. John building fund * : N.B.~Owing to-a very busy week, men's ambulance divisions were iinable to send in their weekly reports.
