AN AID TO MOTORISTS, j Considerable assistance has been given to motorists by the marking of "white centre lines at four of the worst bends on the main road. The lines are unquestionably of great -value, and might very well he continued at the foot of' tho Clifton hill road and at the "Cutting."' One result of the marking of the lines has been to emphasise the danger of at least one of these corners, where there is just sufficient room for' / a car to round the bend within the limits of the line. : The Protective Wall.- . 'the practicability. of tlio': protection ; pf.the foundation of the beach -wall by ' the use of rubble is at present alius- I tra.ted - near tho Scarborough tea-rooms, I where the piliug up of a quantity of small■ stones and shingle has occurred over a distance of about a dozen yards. It is intended to construct two more flights for which the material is at present on the sandhills, The crane has been removed and work is at present concentrated on filling in the .rear of" the wall with sand. Cave Rock Foreshore Extension. j The biggest undertaking which the I Beautifying Association has in view this season is to Jay out the ground j between the stone wall and; the - Esplanade as far as Grafton street, and .'it is hoped that n plan of the proposed work will be available very soon. It was pointed out at a recent meeting that it would be absurd to carry on -with tho planting of Norfolk Island pines until j ft plan had been prepared. Not onlv would sand have to bo removed, but j •there-would-be a risk of damage- to the ] trees when the work was finally under- ! taken. I Forensic Club.
