Regarding the Public Trustee's tetter drawing attention to the fact that the Cashmere electrical extension loan of i11'250 niutut-'d on February Ist, 1932, the clerk reported that on March Hst the sinking fund timonjiled to £11)4, and with the annual payment or .HIOO and interest on the toiegoinff amount, there would be sufficient to meet the loan on maturity. Tho New Zealand Counties' Association wrote setting out ■ the 'arrangements niado with tho Secretary of the Post end Telegraph Department, sharing the cost of pole-removals necessitated by road widening. It was stated that payment only would bo made in cuses where the county asked for the removal of poles, and it, was decided to agree with tho proposed rates—so per cent, on main highways and 25 per cent, on other roads. The Chrislchurch City Council wrote that £4OO had been placed on the estimates for the current year towards tho maintenance of the Dyer's Pass highway. The letter was received, and it was decided to thank the City Council. The Municipal Electricity Department forwirdecl a petition from ten residents of Aynaley terrace applying for additional street lighting. Plans are to be submitted to the next meeting showing tho distances apart of tho existing lumps .It, was derided to reply to the Xcw Brighton liorougb Council that the county will provide one lamp on the river bridge, Pajc :i road, at an annual cost of £G Us, provided the New Brighton and City Councils and the Tramway Board each provide a lamp on the same basis. The Chrislchurch City Engineer forwarded a plan of the proposed widening of Cashmere road, between Haehthonie road and the now bridgo at l'"airviev s-trect. and advised that the City Council was prepared to dedicate certain lend to the county, provided the county made up, formed, and metalled tho roadway. It was decided to reply that tho Council regret led that it could not see its way to form tho road, hut if formed by tho City the county would accept dedication. The Christcliurch Tramway Board wioto that it would contribute £IOO towards tho cost of conveniences at Cashmere, provided that a satisfactory separate compartment ian bo made for the Board's employees. It v.-as decided to receive tho letter and to noto tho information. In accordance with tho request of the C'lmstohurch l r iro Board it was decided *.o advise electric tight consumers regarding the danger o£ lea\ing electric appliances switched on with no person in attendance on the premises. It waa decided to receive a deputation from the United Burgesses' Association at (he Council's next meeting regarding the widening of Hills road, Hillsborough, from Opawa road to Chapman's road. A report is to be prepared giving particulars of the cost of acquiring tho necessary land. The offer of Messrs It. I*. Collins and N. S. Coxhead each to give JJIO towards the cent of erecting a stone wall in front of their properties at Huntsbury was accepted. Tho plan of Mr L. Pannell's subdivision, Wainoni road, v.as approved. The plan forwarded by Messrs Mclntvre and Lewis of tho proposed road on the Cashmere Estate was approved, provided that a three-inch water main is put in from Hills load and the necessary fire plugs. ltegarding the drainage of storm-water from certain properties on Cashmere road, it was decided to reply to Mr O. T. Thurston that the Council considered that those interested (and not the Council) should call a meeting to discuss matters; :f this were done, a repiesentative of the Council and the Health Inspector would attend. RANGIORA. The llangiora County Council met yesterday. Present were —Messrs W. Stalkor (chairman), Or. K. Crysell, 11. Tallott, J. M. Young, J. Brosnan, M. C. Orniandy, and A. Mcintosh. A deputation, consisting of Messrs C. P. Nankivell, G. Young, and Tipplngs, waited on the Council with a request that a drain bo formed to prevent storm-water running on to their properties train the Oxford road. The matter was referred to tho Cust riding moinbers and the clerk to report on. Tho financial statement showed tho receipts for July to have been £2BB lUs lid, and the expenditure £057 0s 3d, leaving a debit balance at tho bunk of £2784 lis Id. In his report the foreman stated that 29 men were working at present under tho No. 5 Scheme, and a further 14 wero off for one veek. A start would be made next woek planting the reserve at Woodend with piuus insignis trees. Tho tractor-grader was working on the highways, and the dray team was patching Cain and Tuahiwi roads. Two rows ot pipes had been put in on Lard's road, and white liftes had been painted on all bends on the North and Jiangiora-Woodoud roads. Messrs Johnston, White, and Kippenberger forwarded a cheque for i'l46 0s lOd, being the amount of rateß collected to dato, and advised that ratepayers whoso rates were | still outstandftig had again boen written to. At the request of Mr H. T. Gibbs, the foreman was instructed to carry out necessary repairs to the footbridge over Dockey creek, on tho Drain road at Fernside. A request from the North Canterbury Power Board for permission to erect a power telephone box adjoining the blacksmith's shop at Oust was acceded to. The secretary of tho Waimakariri Illvor Trust advised that tho Council's letter with reference to the state of fhe Cam river near Kaiapoi had been handed to tho Resident Engineer. An application from Mr T. j. Morgan to have the overflow from tho Stoke Settlement water-race diverted into'its old channel was referred to a sub-committee. It was decided that tho Cust Tennis Club's new lease of the courts at Cust should contain a proviso that there should bo -no play on Sundays, tho other conditions to bo mutually arranged. At the request of tho South Island Motor Union it was decided to protost to the Prime Minister against any interference with the highways fund. Mr It. W. Hawke, M.P., wrote forwarding a letter from the Minister,for Lands (tho I Hon. 13. A. Ransom) with regard to the Coun- ■ ell's application to have the Woodend pound | site transferred to the Council at a nominal I charge. The Minister slated that he was conferring with the Under-Secretary for Lands I regarding the matter, and would advise further as soon as possible. A request from the Public Works Department for permission to drain storm-water ' from the nsw hostel ftt the Rangiora High ; School Into the East belt drain or tlie creek on the northern boundary was granted in re- | spect to the creek. The traffic inspector, Mr C. W. Tyler, reported that to dale 553 drivers' licenses had been issued. Eleven new drivers had been tested, several of whom had been driving for up to six years without a license. Three owners of trucks had been notified that heavy tralfib licenses Wero required, but these had not been applied for. Warnings had been issued to several drivers for having insufficient lighting on cars and motor-cycles, and ito cyclists without lights. Court proceedings had been taken successfully in eight cases. The white lines painted on corners and bends helping to regulate traffic, most drivers Ueeping to their correct sides. Accounts totalling £751 lis Sd were fer payment.
