BURWOOD NOTES.

The monthly meeting of the Burwood Progressive Association was held in the Burwood Hall, the following members being present:—Messrs F. Beaby (chairman), H. Reaby, Wm. Reaby, G. F. Robinson,. Wm. Robinson, F. Cusack, Green, P. Fleete, A. Rowland, A.. S. Roberts, J. Byers, J. Liggins, J. Weatherall, Scribner, Bothaway, Mrs Kerr and Mrs Ecroyd, and the secretary, Mr J. Peters. Reports wore given by various collectors tor the local "Pound Scheme," tbe secretary in charge of the local receiving depot, Mr F. Cusack, stating that the responses had in no way slackened off. Complimentary references were paid to tho work Mrs Kerr had done. Letters were read from tho Tramways Board stating that the fares for school-children had been reduced in accordance with the request of the deputation. Other matters were not finally decided, but tho results would be forwarded In due course. A letter was received from the Christchurch branch of tho Town Planning Institute inviting members to attend lectures given by the Association, and also one from the Christchurch Reserves and Parks Committee in reference to application for playing grounds on Burwood Park. A request was made for tho bettor lighting of Queen street at .the top end, the matter being left in the hands of the local member of tho Waimairi Council. Several complaints were made of tho trolley-buses being very dirty and dusty owing to the tearing up of the loose surface on the roads, and opinions were voiced that the real remedy would be found only either in concrete or bitumen roads. Gratification was expressed regarding the river improvements which are being carried out. It was decided to invito the Aranui Burgesses' Association to a card and dance social on September 3rd. The secretary was instructed to write to the Drainage Board regarding tho dilapidated fence round their pumping station at tho corner of Golf Links road.
