HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE.
NO WATER AVAILABLE. Fire destroyed' a six-TOomeft singlcstoreyed honse at 19 Vernon terrace, St. Martins, occupied by Mr L. Chivers, early last evening. At the time of the fire nobody wsa at home. The flames had a good hold when they were noticed. The Central Fire Brigade was called, and went to the houße, but as it wa« well outside their area, and no water was available, the engines returned to the station. Aided by the easterly breeze, the flames quickly swept through the house, which burned fiercely. The glow attracted many spectators from the neighbourhood and a few from the City. Only a few articles were saved before it became impossible to go into the houpe, and the crowd then had to stand helpless and watch' the fire devour the house and furniture. Soon all that was left was two chimneys; red hot roofing iron, and glowing ashes. The house, which was owned by Mr B V. Dickey, of 40 Innes road, was insured for £650 with the Queensland Insurance Company.
